The Smugglers of Roque Island
Article Abstract:
Roque Island in Down East Maine was home to several liquor smugglers in the 1930s, a time when Prohibition was still in force. Smugglers, on board craft known as Jakey Boats, regularly sailed for St. Andrews, New Brunswick, to replenish their stocks of liquor at home.
