The streamer fly was created in the US and it along with a more recent derivation, the bucktail, have proven to be highly successful replicas of bait minnows. There is no clear history of the invention of the streamer, although Herb Welch and Carrie Stevens developed popular patterns.

Cashing in on caddisflies
Article Abstract:
Imitation caddisflies are often used incorrectly by fly fishermen who tend to fish them in the manner of the more widely known mayfly. Caddisfly behavior must be duplicated correctly in order to get good fishing results, otherwise these realistic imitations will go for naught.
