A new trail will open in the year 2000 that will run from Maine to Canada and stretches 620 miles. The trail will span four parks. Sections of the trail are described, as is the prosess of establishing the trail. In 1998, much of the trail is already in place.

Many people advise those who encounter bears in the wilderness to avoid running and play dead. One man with a lifelong fear of bears finally encountered one while hiking and found the experience very intense. He is still afraid of bears.
