Children's self-perceptions and sources of physical competence information: a cluster analysis
Article Abstract:
A study cross-comparing childrens' age, psychological differences, and sources of information on their own physical competence revealed four profiles. The project included measures of competitive trait anxiety (CTA), perceived physical competence (PC), and general self-esteem (SE). Children in group 1 scored high in CTA and low in PC, and preferred pregame anxiety as a source of negative information, while those in group 4 were older, with similar profiles, and preferred social comparison criteria.

The role of domain and gender-specific provisions of social relations in adherence to a prescribed exercise regimen
Article Abstract:
A study of 41 males and 44 females who were healthy, asymptomatic, aged 43 to 64, and in their 10th week of participation in a federally funded exercise program, examined the role of domain-specific combinations of social support provisions in adherence to a specified exercise regimen. Distinct discriminant function analyses for males and females showed that guidance and reassurance of worth differentiated female adherers and nonadherers.
