An ongoing debate exists over whether the sport shooters of yore are better than those of the present. It is generally agreed upon that shooters of long ago had the advantage of unlimited game shooting, and thus could hone their skills to perfection, but today's more accurate weapons cloud the issue.

Too-sporting clays?
Article Abstract:
Some people believe that sporting clays has become too difficult. The options are to increase the difficulty to accommodate the top shooters or to reduce difficulty to avoid discouraging most other shooters. One problem at competitions is the lack of visibility of the targets.

The popularity of Sporting Clays can be maintained by allowing hunters to participate with the firearms and equipment they use in hunting. Five Stand is a variation on the sport that could attract many more people to the sport.
