The Olympic trials consisted of one race, with only three qualifiers. Janis Klecker fell, was helped up by Cathy O'Brien, and they finished one-two. Francie Larrieu Smith qualified, Lisa Weidenbach had her third fourth-place finish, and the injured Kim Jones dropped out early.

At 17, at 28 and beyond: running helps the author see the possibilities - at any age
Article Abstract:
A personal, 11-year view of running is presented. The love of running began at age 17, with hopes of making the lacrosse team, and has continued to age 28, as a teacher runs in the fading daylight following work. In both cases, running seems to bring forth new possibilities.

McColgan described her win in the 1991 New York City Marathon as 'easy.' She won the 10,000-meter race at the World Championships by 20 seconds, and she twice set world-best times in 5-kilometer road races. Her best 1991 performances are listed.
