Ventilatory limitations in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Article Abstract:
Ventilatory limitations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cause intense breathlessness and severely restrict exercise capabilities. Therapeutic interventions that effectively reduce lung volumes during physical activity help to prevent dynamic lung hyperinflation and improve exercise tolerance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Ventilatory response to exercise in simulated obesity by chest loading
Article Abstract:
The effect of chest mass lading on the ventilatory response to exercise is investigated. Two incremental exercise tests on a cycle ergo meter with increasing work rate demonstrated that exercise capacity in obese people gets reduced because obesity-related chest loading decreases lung volumes and increases mechanical ventilatory constraints during exercise.

Mechanical ventilatory constraints in aging, lung disease, and obesity: perspectives and brief review
Article Abstract:
Aging, lung disease, and obesity place mechanical ventilatory constraints on exercise. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing, to be accurate, attempts to define how those limitations affect ventilatory response. However, there is as yet no agreement about a method that will assess these limits, nor how to quantify maximal ventilatory capacity.
