A cyclist, who often commutes to work in summer, poses a challenge to ride bicycles more and drive automobiles less. The change could reduce air pollution that automobiles add at the rate of one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile and also brings positive attitudes.

President Bush signed a bill in 1991 requiring each state to appoint a bicycle and pedestrian program coordinator. Only a few states have complied. Transportation could be improved in the near future if the US becomes 'bicycle-friendly.'
