Article Abstract:
Man-overboard procedures are designed to help boats manoeuver back to people thrown into the water and bring them back aboard. During the fall of 1994, boating enthusiasts held a three-day session to compare the the Figure Eight, Quick Stop and Fast return methods and determine which among them is the best recovery technique.

Inflatable personal flotation devices (PFDs) are more buoyant and comfortable than conventional PFDs, but they need regular maintenance and must be repacked after use. The Coast Guard will introduce safety and construction standards for PFDs in May 1995.
