The BT Global Challenge is a sailboat race around the world that goes westward, against the wind. Entrants are usually inexperienced sailors who pay a fee of about $28,000, and who are sponsored by corporations. The race is difficult, runs about 30,000 mi, and starts on Sep 9, 1996 in England.

Remembering Susan Hiscock
Article Abstract:
Hiscock was a sailor for over 40 years and circumnavigated the globe 3 1/2 times aboard her 39-foot dinghy Wanderer V. She worked for Sail Magazine as a managing editor. She passed away May 12, 1995, at the age of 81.
