Issues concerning the design and structure of very large container ships are discussed. In particular the problem of aft end slamming and the resulting structural stress is examined.

The modern-day X-craft is a demonstrator that would be used to prove technologies for use in the US Navy's Littoral Combat ship. It has special focus on improved sea-keeping and offers reduced speed loss.

Ghani Behloul the marketing director for France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communication stated that there are number of trends effecting the communication sector in the shipping companies. Behloul commented that they are improving the traffic information system V2 which would be available 24 hours a day via the internet, which would allow the customer to see all the traffic generated by their vessels.
