Flying on foils
Article Abstract:
Italian shipbuilding firm Intermarine has refined the concept of the ekranoplane to save its wing-in-ground effect. The firm has achieved this by transferring the effect into water control surfaces and propulsion systems. The ekranoplane is a watercraft that employs the ground effect phenomenon to skim the surface of the water. The designs released by Intermarine incorporate hydrofoils with small submerged foils while the aerial wing supports the weight of the hull. The hydrofoils act as the ailerons and rudders of the craft.
