Navi-Radar 3000, a PC based radar display system with advanced ARPS and chart facilities and extended integration capabilities has been launched by Transas. The South Tyneside College provides Vessel Traffic Service training and simulation center, so that it will be easy to operate the new system.

Under UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency supervision, Sound Alert has tried out sound-based directional system on 1 of Caledonian MacBrayne's ferries. The system uses white noise to help guide people blinded by smoke to find exits.
