Environmental concerns hit repair industry
Article Abstract:
There are increasing concerns over the environmental implications of grit blasting during hull coating procedures in shiprepair facilities. The cost of providing new equipment to reduce environmental pollution has prompted both shiprepairers and shipowners to consider alternative means of hull preparation. The Hong Kong Shipowners Assn. has formed a coatings working group to develop a standard by which shipowners can specify environmentally safe paints for newbuilding contracts.

Fast relief from faulty fuel
Article Abstract:
Marine services company Lintec decontaminated fuel from a container ship from polypropylene by using two Framo type TK150 portable submersible compact cargo pumps. The capacity of each pump is above 400 cubic meter per hour with a maximum of 250 t/hr which is attributed to the cargo temperature, head height and viscosity. With the equipment, debunkering was completed after 11 hours with a total cost of $14,000.
