Article Abstract:
The future of shipbuilders Harland & Wolff, Belfast, was in jeopardy due to lack of work, however in May 2000 an order to build four ropax ships was won, followed by orders for two cruise ships. Issues concerning the future of the shipyard and the training of it's workforce to avoid the use of subcontractors are presented.

Time out for Classica job

The background to the dispute between shipbuilders Cammell Laird and Costa Cruises over the contract for lengthening 'Costa Classica' is discussed. The arbitration between the two has not yet brokered a solution and the ship has returned to Genoa.
