Piling on the pressure
Article Abstract:
Turbine manufacturers are breaking new ground with the latest generation of fuel-efficient gas turbines for the marine industry. While these gas turbines may not be competitive with diesel engines for some time, their increased fuel economy has provoked much interest from shipowners. Standing out among these new-generation gas turbines is Rolls Royce's recuperated WR21, which is rated at 25MW and has NO(sub x) emissions that are better than 5 g/kWh. Other manufacturers with interesting new turbine products are Solar Turbines and Ulstein.

Turbines power up
Article Abstract:
FastShip prefers gas turbines over diesel engines for its 1,432 TEU vessels. The shipping company has decided to pursue such alterations to shorten Trans Atlantic voyages and decrease ship weight to load more cargo. These gas turbines yield much cleaner emissions and higher power output. Although conventional fuel for such turbines is expensive like MDO, alternatives that are cheaper but provides similar efficiency and performance like IF30 can be use.
