The domestic dash for container ships
Article Abstract:
Private Turkish shipyards have a healthy roster of orders for new container ships. At the Selah shipyard, the order book includes a 600 TEU ship for Ferrostaal and two 900 TEU ships for Alfa Marine and Atlantik Shipping. At the Sedef Gemi shipyard, there are orders for four 1,147 TUES container ships while at Marmara Transport, work is continuing on a 10,850 dwt feeder ship. Other shipyards with orders are Celik Tekne and Madenci Gemi Sanayii. The two main state-owned yards are also doing good business, although their orders are mainly for passenger ferries and roll-on roll-off vessels.

Standing on their own feet
Article Abstract:
The Polish shipping industry is expected to make good progress in 1996 and beyond as the country's economy continues to improve. However, the industry still has to boost productivity. The industry's 2.17 million gt. orders make it fourth on the world orderbook, but it is ranked eighth in terms of production. Builders, repairers and equipment manufacturers are still adapting to a free market economy but have the necessary business and worksmanship skills to become a global leader.
