Simplified Voyage Data Recorders as compared to Full Voyage Data Records are less expensive, easier to fit and offer the same level of functionality. The draft performance standards for Simplified Voyage Data Recorders are due for adoption and would be put before the Maritime Safety Committee in the month of May 2004.
