Article Abstract:
The leisure industry is viewing the idea of a minimum wage with alarm and Business in Sport and Leisure, a lobbying organisation, is in discussions with Labour about concessions within the industry. Chief executive of BISL, Brigid Simmonds, believes that although higher wages would mean more money to spend in the leisure industry, this would not compensate for the higher costs incurred by the operators. One benefit however, would be to improve the staff retention rate.
