Much more than infamous bridge

Kanchanaburi Province was featured at the International Tourism Expo, Hong Kong, in a move to market the area internationally. The province is better known for its 'Bridge over the River Kwai' which many travellers visit on a day trip fron Bangkok. The region also features caves, waterfalls and forests, and it boasts a number of international standard hotels. The province is currently mainly visited by Thais.

Border troubles but Chiang Rai is on course for boom
Article Abstract:
The Thai province of Chiang Rai is expected to see a tourist boom, despite recent fighting between Burmese rebel groups on its borders. The border is expected to be reopened by November 1995, when the high season begins. Chaing Rai boasts the gateway to the Golden Triangle, and visitors can take advantage of trekking, boat trips along the Mekong River, elephant rides and visits to the Karen hilltribe village.
