Article Abstract:
The hotel sector in London is attracting much overseas investment, leading to new design developments. The new wave of designer hotels include Anouska Hempel's The Hempel, and The Metropolitan. It is likely that such operators will stay at the forefront of the designer hotel sector, but the design must evolve with the guest in mind, and a personal touch needs to be fostered. These new types of hotel are proving successful in some locations, helped by experienced professional management and marketing.

Public houses have been remodelled to reflect changing customer requirements in the 1990s. They are designed to welcome customers from all walks of life and sexual orientation. Many pubs have a theme such as brewery chain George Bass Co's Hogshead restaurants. Traditional pub environments are still relatively popular, however. Recent changes in opening hours legislation has lengthened the total time pubs can remain open.
