Germany's expansion has reached its limits
Article Abstract:
NUR Touristic Chairman Wolfgang Beeser believes the German charter holiday market reached maturity in 1997, but the company aims to grow by expanding its share of the market. The company intends to increase its in-house hotel capacity, particularly on the Canary Islands, and may relaunch Terramar Reisen in the top end of the market. Direct sales via the Internet are not under consideration and travel agents will continue to be used for several years, says Beeser. NUR Touristic hopes to overtake TUI as market leader.

Germans returning to Cuba after a poor 1995
Article Abstract:
German holiday makers are choosing to go to Cuba for their winter holidays this year rather that the Dominican Republic, even though the prices have risen by as much as 10%. Only 57,000 german tourists visited in 1995 but an increase of 20% is expected in 1996. Continued increases are dependant on trade to the Dominican Republic and this may fluctuate. Tourists want to stay in better quality, internationally-run, four-star hotels and most opt for beach holidays. Cultural and historical tours are also popular.
