HFT launches hospitality qualification
Article Abstract:
The UK Hospitality Training Foundation (HTF) has launched an initiative to develop a higher level of skilled hospitality trainees by working in partnership with industry. The initiative may also be used as part of the governments Welfare to Work campaign. Employers take on a trainee who is then trained both on-site and at an educational establishment, ensuring the employer passes on the skills which they feel are equally important. The educational side deals with hygiene, communication and literacy skills.

There are three main ways to find work in the UK hospitality industry, through a full time course in a an educational establishment, by becoming a trainee or by working in the job. The industry offers a wide range of job opportunities, with over 250,000 outlets employing around 2 million people. There are 5 Modern Apprenticeships and various degree courses relating to the hospitality industry. National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications are also offered in 38 different aspects of the industry.

Our University for Industry - Hospitality Worldwide, has launched a new workplace learning programme which allows managers and supervisors in the hospitality industry, to gain qualifications through the Internet. Ufi-hw aims to provide a very different form of education development based on action learning, and each course is tailored to suite existing patterns of work. It is supported by the British Hospitality Association and the Hotel and Catering International Management Association.
