Hoteliers learn from hard lessons

A more positive atmosphere is emerging in the world hotel industry, even though hoteliers are aware of the need to reduce costs if they are to improve profitability, according to Christiane Clech, secretary general of the International Hotel Association (IHA). The budget and mid-market sectors are seeing expansion in almost all European countries. Delegates at the forthcoming IHA annual congress will discuss challenges facing the industry, including the integration of new technology and traveller safety and security.

The locomotive of development?
Article Abstract:
Poland is investing heavily in its railway system, and tourism is likely to reap the benefits. The country already has direct rail links from Berlin, Frankfurt, Vienna, Prague and Brussels. Polish State Railways (PKP) will turn some rolling stock into hotel accommodation for business travellers, and it is planning to invest in faster locomotives. Local train services are being developed in tourist areas.
