Screen dreams
Article Abstract:
The number of adults visiting the cinema in the UK has risen to 72% in 1998, from 58% in 1996, according to Mintel. The UK cinema market is seeing its highest admission levels since the late 1970s. There has been a rise in the proportion of adults visiting once a month or more to 25%, from 12%. Nick Kilby from The Entertainment Team believes that cinema operators could attract more people by exploiting niche markets, as has already happened in the US.

Developing sports development
Article Abstract:
A number of specialties are emerging in the area of sports development in the UK, according to a report from the Institute of Sport and Recreation Planning and Management. Generalist sports development officers still serve wide areas, but target group development officers are now working closely with specific groups. In both cases, development officers are often highly qualified, but sometimes lack the back-up of a support network.
