John Lee
Article Abstract:
John Lee has been appointed Chair of Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. Lee has experience of the leisure industry as former tourism minister, member of the English Tourist Board (ETB) and director of a commercial enterprise. Since 1990 he has been Chair of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions. Lee considers government leisure industry funding essential and regrets ETB funding cuts. He avocates collaborative private and public schemes overseen by a national coordinating body. A fulltime professional Chair would provide effective leadership.

The 1992 Museums Association Conference has considered the cultural and environmental context of museums through seminars. Journal co-editor Gail Dexter Lord explored the link between museums and tourism. Consultant, John Prescott considered the role of museum shops. The Leicestershire Museums, Arts and Records Services department analysed the development of Snibston Discovery Park, Leicestershire, England. Museums and Galleries Commission Deputy Director Chris Newbery discussed disability guidelines.
