Lots of upmarket appeal, but no five-star hotels
Article Abstract:
The Cook Islands offer many benefits to tourists but still lack a five-star hotel. A Sheraton hotel was planned by developers but cash problems have prevented it from being completed. Hotels tend to be three-star and a half, and only two large hotels exist on Rarotonga, the main island. This means that group travel cannot easily be catered for and lack of premium accommodation hampers tourism on the islands. There are also self-catering bungalows and motels for tourists on a budget.
