No sign of island leader slowing
Article Abstract:
The Dominican Republic attracted 2.2 million tourists in 1997, and the number of visitors from Europe increased by 30%. Many of these came from the United Kingdom, although fewer tourists from Germany and Italy visited than in previous years. Tourists were not detracted by serious health scares on the island because the prices of the holidays were so competitive. Prices start at 675 pounds sterling for two weeks. The beaches are a major attraction for most people, but there are opportunities to try white-water rafting or go in a cable car to the top of Mount Isabella.

Beat the crowds on the open road
Article Abstract:
Popular tourist destinations in Thailand are becoming very crowded, and this has prompted the Tourism Authority of Thailand to encourage fly-drive holidays, thus moving tourists away from the main resorts. However, the leading European operators have not included fly-drive programmes in their brochures, as they have not felt the need to find new ways of encouraging people to travel to Thailand. Furthermore, Europeans are often unwilling to drive in Asia.
