Spanish hotels to be rated for excellence
Article Abstract:
The two main hotel associations in Spain are to establish a new hotel-rating system. The scheme will give clients a better picture of the quality of services and facilities than is provided by the existing star and key grading systems. The agreement was reached between the presidents of beach hotel association Zontur and the city-based Spanish Hotel Federation. The scheme will initially operate in ten Spanish resorts. Seals of excellence will be awarded by an independent panel.

Spanish shun the idea of big-name brands
Article Abstract:
The Spanish hotel industry away from coastal areas remains dominated by individual, family-run operations, and this can make it hard for travel agents to select suitable accommodation for business travellers or visitors travelling independently. There are city centre hotels and small, rural properties, but no networks of inexpensive hotels on main routes. However, Forte and Accor are now moving towards establishing roadside chains.

Openings help keep city hotel rates down
Article Abstract:
The city of Prague, Czech Republic, has become a very popular business and tourist destination over recent years. This led to the number of hotels beds there rising to 45,000 in 1995, from only 8,000 in 1990. The market has become much more competitive, and hotels have to offer high levels of quality in order to attract business. Recently opened hotels include the 240-room Quality Hotel Prague, run by Choice Hotels International.
