Leeds Sporting PLC Managing Director Jeremy Fenn confirms the company intends to bring in basketball and ice hockey teams to the Leeds Arena which they plan to build next to Leeds Football Club. He suggests the arena will also be used for concerts, shows, conferences and boxing. The arena will offer some retail space, restaurants, exhibition areas and have a capacity for 14,000 people. Leeds Sporting already owns Leeds football club. The stadium and arena will be part of an entertainment network for television. Fenn has been the managing director of Leeds Sporting since 1997.

Designs on Glasgow
Article Abstract:
Up to 34 million pounds sterling worth of investment will be created by choosing Glasgow as the UK City of Architecture and Design for 1999. The year-long event is aimed at introducing architectural design to all aspects of the city, which won the right to the title after being chosen from 26 entrants. Tourism and inner city development will benefit from the arts event, which is expected to attract a wide range of interest from all areas of business.

The ice is right
Article Abstract:
Nottingham City Council is developing a 40 million pounds sterling ice sports facility, the first phase of which opens in April 2000. The National Ice Centre will have two Olympic-sized rinks, plus conference and concert facilities. The council is investing more than 4 million pounds sterling in the venture, with nearly 1 million pounds sterling donated by English Partnerships and a further 22.5 million pounds sterling from the Lottery Sports Fund.
