Survival of the fittest
Article Abstract:
The revamp of the London Arena, which opened in May 1989 as a multi-purpose venue, started following its purchase in 1994 by Spectacor Management Group (SMG). The venue had been experiencing some problems, particularly because of poor access to it by public transport. It was upgraded and refurbished, with capacity rising to 12,500, and prospective purchasers were sought. Under SMG, it is soon to have 6,500 parking spaces, and has benefited from the completion of the Docklands Light Railway.
