Article Abstract:
Sport and leisure developments are playing a significant role in urban regeneration in Cardiff, Wales. One of the most important developments is the 121 million pounds sterling Millennium Stadium, which will have capacity of 73,000 and will be the second stadium in Europe with a retractable roof. The Millennium Stadium has been a driving force behind a range of regeneration initiatives, including the refurbishment of the railway and bus station. There are also plans to develop a brownfield site within Cardiff Bay for an international sports village.

Overall visitor numbers have risen, with leisure and adventure parks attracting 22.2 million people in 1996.
