Taking issue with membership contracts
Article Abstract:
Membership contracts are designed to provide leisure operators with a long-term financial committment from the customer. Critics suggest that it is unfair to force a customer to pay for membership when club services are inadequate. Health club clients at the LA Fitness centre in Kingston, UK, are encouraged to adopt a healthier life-style, says group marketing management Zoe Sharp. Contract schemes provide assured income for the club and help members to manage membership fee payments, says David Howard of Belmont Finance, UK.

Dissecting CCT
Article Abstract:
A report by CDC Research has revealed little private sector interest in competing for leisure industry contracts. Compulsory Competitive Tendering (CCT) has failed due to poor public support of facilities. Large capital investment with poor prospects of good financial return may have discouraged contractors. Legal uncertainty over transfer liabilities has also deterred companies.

Anxious times ahead over rent reviews
Article Abstract:
Rent reviews are having a growing influence over the multiplex industry. Multiplexes in the south and east of England are reaching 20 pounds sterling per square foot, having risen from around five pounds sterling just over a decade ago.
