The National Minimum Wage and you
Article Abstract:
The UK leisure industry, the country's most rapidly expanding service industry, is willing to accept the concept of a National Minimum Wage. However, it does not want to see the minimum wage hamper growth, especially when it is offering employment to many potential employees from the New Deal. The minimum wage for those aged over 21 has been set at 3.60 pounds sterling an hour from Apr 1999, rising to 3.70 pounds sterling in Jun 2000. Tips will be allowed as a deduction against the minimum wage in certain circumstances.

Can leisure stop smoking
Article Abstract:
The UK leisure industry must become involved in deciding how to manage the problem of smoking within their premises. The UK government has not banned smoking from all public areas but has introduced a Charter which will be monitored by external researchers, funded by the leisure industry. For some leisure facilities organising non smoking areas would be very difficult, such as nightclubs. Many hospitality associations, such as restaurants, have already endorsed the provisions in the Charter.
