The UK government's revision proposals for Planning Policy Guidance 13 (PPG 13), which lays out transport proposals, promotes transport choice. The revised guidance focuses on making public buildings or large employers more accessible by a variety of transport means, including car, walking, cycling and bus. The main elements of the proposals include the replacement of existing traffic impact assessments with new, broader transport assessments, the introduction of maximum standards for parking and the development by local authorities of green transport plans by local businesses. Critics have until Jan 5, 2000, to respond to the paper.

The master plan
Article Abstract:
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Business In Sport and Leisure and the Royal Town Planning Institute cooperated to organize a seminar looking at the UK government's plans to return leisure facilities to town centres. Speakers covered a wide range of issues, including problems associated with finding suitable sites, the need for good public transport links and the personal security of customers. It was agreed that the government must ensure that proposals for leisure strategies are clear.
