Statistics show that Canadians bought $89 million worth of Australian wine in 2004 - a jump by 55 percent from 1999 - and sales of Australian wines in restaurants doubled during that period, making Canada the third largest export destination for Australia. The reasons for Australian winesE popularity are: the success of the winemakers blending process, use of non-traditional winemaking techniques, price range, the countryEs thriving tourism industry, and consumer friendly labeling.

Europe opens doors to Canadian wines
Article Abstract:
The European Commission has opened the European market to all Canadian wines that meet the same winemaking standards as European Union (EU) wines. Previously, Canadian Icewine was barred from Europe because it did not meet an EU regulation for residual sugar content. The European Commission also announced that the term 'Icewine' used to describe the Canadian-made dessert wine will be exclusivelyprotected on the EU market.

Canadian wine lovers have come to recognize and accept Canadian wines after years of effort by Canadian wine producers to entice Canadian wine consumers. Previously, Canadians considered wines produced in other countries to be superior to Canadian wines. A major factor in the successfull acceptance of Canadian wines by Canadian wine lovers is the cultivation of good relationships between wineries and restaurants.
