Winnipeg restaurateurs try to prevent smoking ban
Article Abstract:
The hospitality industry in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 1, 2000, presented the city council with a 10,000-signature-petition that opposed a total smoking ban. However, Mark Lubosch, the city councilor who chaired the committee that held hearings on amending the city's smoking bylaw, was not impressed. Lubosch said that surveys on the issue sent to 200,000 households in Winnipeg showed that they overwhelmingly in support of a complete smoking ban. Passed in 1983, Winnipeg's smoking bylaw has been amended three times in the past 10 years.
