The Musk Ox Farm in Palmer, Alaska, is home to the world's oldest captive herd of musk ox and is a prototype for qiviut, the soft downy underfur of the musk ox, farming operations. Qiviut is reportedly eight times warmer than wool and, once made into yarn and knitted into clothing, can be worn against the skin without itching, can be washed without danger of shrinking and is twice as soft as cashmere.
