Lakatos in Hungary
Article Abstract:
Hungarian-born philosopher and mathematician Imre Lakatos' experiences in his native land influenced his outlook in life, as well as his world view. As a child, he exhibited logical control of his actions, even to the point of looking like a coward before his peers. At first, an introverted scholar in college, he soon got embroiled with underground communist movements. His philosophical disposition could push him to callous actions, such as requiring a woman to commit suicide to ensure a group's safety. Whatever the impetus for his actions, his logical brilliance was always manifest.
