California bans recreational fishing in Channel Islands
Article Abstract:
The decision, to shut down some of the 175 square miles of coastal waters surrounding the Channel Islands in Southern California for fishing both commercial and recreational, was taken at a meeting of the Commission in Santa Barbara. The possibility of similar closures in other coastal states including Oregon, Massachusetts and Florida are under speculation.

Scot Cherry is a former commercial fisherman who fishes for sharks from a surfboard. He tells a gripping story of his largest catch, a 200-lb., 11-ft thresher, during a 4-hour ordeal that included being threatened by two other large deadly sharks, a mako and a blue.
