Cruise-ship health care: prescription for trouble
Article Abstract:
Cruise lines, which are expected to have 6.4 million annual passengers by the year 2000, excel in comfort and services but tend to have below-average medical care and facilities. No cruise ship is required to have a doctor for the duration of the trip, and there are no international regulations for standards applicable to physicians, nurses, and health facilities. Examples of patients' life-threatening experiences from poor medical care are examined.
