Ed Schwartz once reigned as the king of Chicago late-night radio, pioneering a show based on intimacy and helping others, however changing tastes and ill health brought him to the point at which he himself needed help. Schwartz, who launched one of the city's largest food drives and became an unlikely local celebrity through his startling generosity, on and off air, was diagnosed with renal failure and was given two weeks to live without treatment.

Writers Jay Lavender and Jeremy Garelick along with some Hollywood executives met actor Vince Vaughn to discuss their script for 'The Golden Tux' and to request Vaughn to play the lead in that comedy but instead the three collaborated to write 'The Break-Up' and sold the script to Universal Studios. Jay Lavender is a screenwriter suddenly near the top of his profession and his maiden attempt 'The Break-Up' is ready for release in June 2006.
