Tourism has begun to pick up in Plains, GA, the home of former President Jimmy Carter, since the National park Service turned the area into the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site and Preservation area. The area is quiet, but the presence of Carter can add excitement to a trip.

How safe is Amtrak?

Accidents involving Amtrak trains have risen 47% since 1986. The dramatic increase is attributed in part to poor maintenance by host railroads since deregulation of the industry occurred in 1980.
