The island of Maui in Hawaii is famous for Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano at 10,000 feet. The volcano can be reached by biking, hiking or horseback. Iao Valley, Maalaea Bay and the resort areas of Kaanapali, Napili and Kapalua are other favorites among travellers.

The other side of paradise: exploring Maui's rugged far shores
Article Abstract:
Maui has many exotic spots that travellers can enjoy and there are many establishments like hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops that can accomodate travelers. The far shores sit on inhospitable terrain but the view more than compensates for the trouble.

Kapalua: preserving Maui
