California's famed Pacific Coast Highway offers travelers some of the most spectacular vistas and gorgeous scenery in the country. Since it opened in 1937 it has been a destination in and of itself and not just a means of getting to one. A trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles is described.

Article Abstract:
One of the loveliest drives in the US is along the Pacific Coast Highway or California Highway 1 along the state's central coast. A trip from Morro Bay to Big Sur is 102 miles and should be done over two days to fully enjoy the incredible scenery and all there is to do en route.

the electric road trip

Electronic automobiles are available and will soon become common. Current emission-free cars handle very well, but may only operate for about an hour on a fully charged battery. Auto makers are working on stronger batteries and hybrid engines that use some gas.
