On the trail of Poppa's Alaska
Article Abstract:
A grandson retraces the steps of his grandfather's 1915 journey through the Alaskan wilderness with his father and rediscovers the rugged beauty and natural wonders the land has to offer. A description of the trip, which included treks on horseback as well as rafts is given. The captivating scenery surrounding Beaver Creek remains as beautiful today as it has for hundreds of years.

Bear country: on Kodiak Island, the best is unexpected
Article Abstract:
Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska is named for the large Kodiak bears, which can weight more than 1,600 pounds. Kodiak, AL, has a history of tidal waves and earthquakes but the fishing town offers great seafood and easy treks to wilderness.
