Article Abstract:
California has become the second state in the US, after Alaska, to pass legislation prohibiting cruise ships from dumping hazardous materials, sewage sludge and bilge water containing oil. While the cruise line industry argues that it is determined to meet or exceed existing federal and international regulations, environmentalists and some US states are not prepared to take the industry at its word and want tighter regulations, such as those in Alaska and California, put in place.
