The east coast of Baja California, on the Gulf of California, has some of the best shell-collecting beaches in the world, by Bahia de la Concepcion in the north and La Paz in the south. Mexico still allows the non-commercial collecting of 'dead' shells, though restrictions are increasing worldwide.
