Dave Chapelle became an entry-level stand-up comedian at age 14 and had to be accompanied by his mother. He took Bill Kelly's advice to take acting lessons and enrolled at the Duke Ellington School for the arts, but kept on polishing his act at open-mike nights. At 22, he is playing opposite Eddie Murphy.
