Article Abstract:
William Albert Allard has been practicing photography as a profession for close to 30 years. Starting out as an intern for the 'National Geographic,' Allard became known around the world for the unintrusive pictures he took. Most of his works are included in the retrospective book 'The Photographic Essay.'

Selected shots by expert photojournalists covering various subjects emerged as winners in the 54th annual photo contest in Washington. 'Repent Now' by Robert Trippett pictured a group of nun advocates for AIDS funding, while 'Gulp' by Ron Edmonds photographed a little boy playing with a big salmon mockup.
